Why NEWMAN Club?

Kean's Catholic Newman Club, a student-run organization that's advised by the Catholic Campus Ministry office, is named after Saint John Henry Newman, a former Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

All Are Welcome

Newman Ministries are found on college campuses all over the world, and are part of a global movement to bring the Catholic faith and support to Catholic students to colleges and universities. Kean University's Newman Club is committed to bringing opportunities for spiritual growth and faith development to students on Kean University's campus through learning, prayer, fellowship, community service, and fun activities. All Catholic Newman Club and Campus Ministry activities are open to anyone looking to broaden their faith horizons, Catholic or otherwise.

Saint John Henry Newman 1801-1890

Cardinal Newman lived in England in the 19th century, and one of his works was creating a society for Catholics that were attending Oxford University. Eventually named the Newman Society, other branches were established in his honor throughout the world. Newman Centers provide pastoral services and ministries to Catholics at non-Catholic universities. Cardinal Newman was beatified on Sept. 19, 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI, and became a canonized saint of the Catholic Church on October 13, 2019.

“As a practicing Catholic…

..it is essential to continue practicing faith everywhere I go and to resis the temptations of leaving the faith. Everyone at the Catholic Newman Club here at Kean was ever so welcoming, friendly, and able to help me keep my faith and grow and strengthen it. Without the people I met while with the Newman Club, I never cound have accomplished the things in which I have. The Newman Club members have always been there for me and supported me n anything and everything.” - Michael R., Class of 2021, Previous CNC President
