Off Campus: Why St. Francis Still Matters Today

We’re headed to Seton Hall University to hear a lecture from a Kean professor on February 12, 2026.

Time: 6:00pm - 8:30pm EST

Location: Bishop Dougherty University Center, Chancellor’s Suite, Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ.

Christopher Bellitto, Ph.D, of Kean University will present lecture on St. Francis.

The Italian government restored October 4, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, as an annual national holiday starting 2026 on the 800th anniversary of his death.

Why does Francis of Assisi still matter?

Francis of Assisi is still teaching us about virtue and integrity, the common good and our shared environment, self-awareness and personal growth.

Join us as head to SHU we look to explore the lessons and legacies of this poor, wandering medieval preacher for the 21st century. This is also a timely discussion as Pope Leo has just announced the Jubilee year to honor St. Francis of Assisi.

Carpool from Kean with the Campus Minister is on a first come, first served basis. You must also register for this event by Monday, February 9th with Lucia- in order for her to send a headcount to Seton Hall. You can do so by emailing her at Lpasternak@kean.edu, and let her know if you will drive yourself or claim a spot in her vehicle.

Questions can be sent to Lucia as well.
